Balloon Syndrome – this poor 800g adult male hog was brought in yesterday. The caller said the hog was bouncing around the garden! This is caused by air/gas which is trapped under the skin usually caused by injury or infection. In the photos you can see the poor hog cannot get all four legs on the ground. One photo shows perfectly how it was head and feet facing down and the bum and back legs up in the air. This is treated by removing the gas/air and giving antibiotics and pain meds. Please also see this poor hog is riddled with fly strike (eggs).
