Pop…

29th May

We have been keeping a secret at the rescue. He goes by the name of Pop and came in ice cold and his mouth was full of fly eggs. He weighed 41g. His three siblings all died just after arrival and one was found dead by the finder. Their nest had been disturbed and was wet and cold. The hoglets were out of the nest and no sign of mother for several hours. Pop now weighs 44g and although this is amazing every hour is critical when they are so small. Kept in the incubator he is on two hour feeds. Some photos for you and fingers crossed for this cutie. Hoglets have their eyes and ears closed until they are two weeks old. We estimate Pop was three days old on arrival.

31st May

Pop update. He is getting very mobile now, taking his formula well and weighs 46g. Hoglets can’t curl up until day 8 which makes them very vulnerable in the wild. Pop isn’t there yet, but this will be a good indicator of his age as well as when his eyes open properly at 14 days. He is such a sweetie and I am just hoping like crazy he keeps staying well and gaining weight. Hand rearing hoglets is not easy, so many things can and do go wrong with them. I don’t want us to get too excited with his progress just in case. Keep those fingers crossed for him.

2nd June

Little Pop is now 49g! Still not curling up.

More news of Pop soon………..
